A 78-year-old Hastings widow has described how a whispered message from her late husband prompted her to visit Deluxe Bingo Hastings – where she then won a £1,000 prize.

Margaret Smith, a regular customer at the popular seaside venue, had no plans to play bingo on the afternoon in question.

However, she told General Manager Ileana Danescu that her late husband seemed to urge her to go.

Danescu said: “She wasn’t going to come in to play bingo that day, but she told me her late husband whispered in her ear to play bingo.

“She listened, came in, played – and won!

“She is absolutely thrilled about her win, and says that this is her Christmas present from us.”

Mrs Smith called a full house in just 20 numbers during the national game, securing the £1,000 prize.

Stephen Lawrence, Chief Operating Officer at Deluxe Bingo Hastings, congratulated Mrs Smith on her success.

Lawrence said: “We’re over the moon for Margaret and thrilled to congratulate her on this well-deserved £1,000 win.

“Moments like these are what make our community so special.

“It’s wonderful to see the support from our customers too and the joy this has brought to Margaret, especially coming up to Christmas.”

The win comes as the Pelham Place venue continues its festive offerings and community initiatives. On Sunday afternoons throughout December, customers purchasing any bingo package will receive a complimentary roast turkey sandwich.

The Deluxe, which reopened in June after a major refurbishment, has also raised more than £4,000 towards a £10,000 pledge for St Michael’s Hospice in Hastings and Rother, which provides end-of-life care.

To round off the year, Deluxe is hosting its Christmas Party on Saturday 20 December. For £10 per person, attendees will enjoy a free drink, venue gift, canapés, live entertainment and two guaranteed £1,000 houses.
